DREAM BIRD -- John Lang (for Kate)

Staggered by emotion, toppled by illusion
Freely I submit to her world of sound
Swayed by devotion, lost in confusion
Now my heart has gone to the lost and found

Running up a hill, flying on a kite
Sitting in a warm room, warm and soothing
Blow away for Bill, Swallow in the night
Passing through air that's moving, moving

I'm still waiting, anticipating
All the love of this woman's work
I'm still breathing, quietly dreaming
You're the one in a sensual world

Every time I hear your voice
My existence just stands still
Even then the simplest choice
Becomes an act of strength and will

Sitting in a warm room, warm and soothing
Passing through air that's moving, moving
Sitting in a warm room, warm and soothing

Sitting in a warm room, warm and soothing
Passing through air that's moving, moving
Sitting in a warm room, warm and soothing
Passing through air that's moving, moving

ENJOY THE MOMENT -- Derek Wood

The air smells of all that reminds you of when you were young
The celestial script lays before you at page number one

Stand and watch the day as it passes before you
The scene is as English as flags flying straight in the wind
Your head is filled with words from original voices
Twisting and stumbling, preparing as if for a fall
Everything is there and it's yours for the taking
Or courage, conviction is worth nothing at all

Well, think about the best things you've ever seen
And the big life that you're living in
Enjoy the day, enjoy the hour, enjoy the moment
So send your prayers out for heaven's sake
And take your cue from the hand of fate
Enjoy the day, enjoy the hour, enjoy the moment

The daydream procession recedes as you're out on a whim
The script lays unread and is blowing about in the wind
Stand and watch the day as it passes before you, etc.

There's nothing that's gone that you'll live to regret
This could be as good as it ever will get
The future that waits is so neatly set
This time in your life is the sweetest yet

I SEE YOUR FACE AGAIN -- Geoff Preece

I see your face again, honey
And the years go rushing by
To take me way back when, honey
You were by my side

Your eyes stare at me from the past
You kiss me and I hear your voice
Funny the memories which last
I never could recall the dress you wore

No matter how the years may fly
Although are hearts are won anew
Love that was love can never die
That's why I'll never forget you

Doo doo-doo doo-doo, etc.

I listen to the things you say
But it don't matter anymore
You said I'd understand someday
It's all just waves on the seashore

RING AROUND THE MOON -- Derek Wood

There's a look across the table
There's a bombshell in the mail
As if I need reminding that I'll
need to move a mountain if I fail
Stay close to me the pace is punishing
Huddled in our shelters on the hill
And as I turn away
Refusing all the help from those that will
And I struggle hard to move the stone back from the door
And I stumble out into the quiet night

There's a ring around the moon
All the stars above my head
Am I standing on the world or am I falling
Oh I've been waiting here forever
Oh I've been waiting here forever

From the evening late edition
Shouts a man who has a vision
I read the words that blur the lines
Dividing fact from fiction just the same
Out on the edge the weather's punishing
Framed against the grey and sullen sky
And as I turn away
Refusing help from those who pass me by
And I struggle hard to push the rocks against the door
And I settle back into the darkest night

And the moon will rise above the open field tonight
And a voice is heard above the silence as it falls
And I hold my breath so I'll miss nothing here at all

BUFFOON -- Derek Wood

Treat him like a son, a son that we don't know
Take a leap of faith when the lights don't show
The nation holds its breath as its finest hour is gone
Gently bleeds to death as the bands play on

The wise will nod their heads as the free words fly
Spoken by a man with the sincerest eyes
The beggar reaches out as the conscience reaches in
Turn my head away it's the easy sin
Turn my head away it's the easy sin

Look at me, am I some kind of a fool
The day is mine, the race is won
Defining lines between the great and a buffoon
Great and a buffoon

Treated like a god, creeping like a thief
Cunningly disguised, elegant and cheap
The nation bleeds to death as its finest day has come
Running out of breath as the band heads home
Running out of breath as the band heads home

PLEASE TALK TO ME -- Claire & Derek Wood

It's hard to focus when you first open your eyes
The scene surrounds you and comes as no little surprise
Tap is dripping, misery stacked in the sink
Head is pounding, making it so hard to think

And the telephone hangs by the wire
All alone, nervously pulls you to your feet
It's quiet here, there's no-one here
Will somebody please just talk to me

Call the waiter, nobody's eager to wait
Call the airport and nobody stands by the gate
Curse forgiveness, the demon that waits at your door
Curse contentment, a friend you won't seek anymore

But the telephone hangs by the wire
All alone, nervously pulls you to your feet
It's quiet here, there's no-one here
Will somebody please just talk to me

No more standing around the table tonight
Faith is out of my hands and out of my sight
Head will tell me to leave when things don't go right

But the telephone hangs by the wire
All alone, nervously pulls you to your feet
It's quiet here, there's no-one here
Will somebody please just talk to me

Hung by the wire
All alone, nervously pulls you to your feet
It's quiet here, there's no-one here
Will somebody please just talk to me

Talk to me, talk to me, talk to me, talk to me

WAITING AROUND FOR THE SUN -- John Lang

Sitting around on those rainy days
Counting the minutes one by one
Living around all those painful ways
Pretending I'm happy just for fun
Rainy days go away
April turn into May
Grey skies make way for the sun

Sitting around on those rainy days
Thinking of good times I have had
Laughing and loving on those sunny days
Surely the rain can't be so sad
Rainy days go away
April turn into May
Grey skies make way for the sun

I can see the children in the sunshine
I can hear their laughter on the breeze
Blues skies will soon replace the grey I'm
waiting around for the sun
waiting around for the sun

DIRT ROAD -- Derek Wood

Mad boy pressed his face so hard against my window
I wouldn't mind but his face looked so like mine used to
The imprint of his breath for me is unconcerning
But the liberty he takes with me is so uncaring

Dirt Road, dirt road, spider (dragon) (mammoth) in my bath
I'll be prepared for anything whatever sweeps down my path
Dirt road, dirt road, lion in my den
I'll be heading for the exit then I'm back home again
And I'm home, yeah, I'm home

You can't out run the younger man indefinitely
But you can steal a line from a friend who's dead or soon will be
The present always comes to haunt the future some say
So history repeats itself again one day

Don't wait up 'cause there's nothing to see
just a sweat stained shirt and some offering from me
The last waltz plays as I reach for the end of the dirt road
Of the dirt road

The age of innocence lies dead and unappealing
While the engine in my heart and mind just loses feeling
It's true to say I'm lost amongst the dirt of travel
As my feet resound and the rhythm pounds upon the gravel

HUNTER'S MOON -- John Lang (from a poem by Liz Pamment)

Belly lean and muzzle white, bushy tail and eyes of night
Silken coat of russet fur so smooth
Prowling through his realm with pride, trusted female at his side
The dog fox gives his quarry worth to prove
His domain is carpeted with green and brown and gold
The terrain he covets is exquisite to behold
A hollow scooped out in the soil makes for him a palace royal
In this rich and blessed land

His queen is slight and gentle
Auburn crowned and amber-eyed
Together they roam the fruitful country of their birth
And cry exultantly in thanks for this their earth

See the moon up in the sky, spilling out upon the eye
Like a gem, it's gleaming glow unfurled
Shining on a secret pool of water deep and icy cool
Marking out an edge about their world
He tries to pin its fragile skin upon his queen
The water stirs, the image blurs and can't be seen
They struggle through the winter cold, the table's bare, the trails are old
They dream of feast and summer song

Invaders cross their boundaries
Just to tear them apart
These rich killers come to vent their wroth
In fine coats of blood and mud-sprayed cloth

They stalk their prey with greed, the thrill is all they need
They hunt their quarry just for fun
The baying hounds surround the queen whom they have found
Quick as her mate she cannot run
He looks back from the hill to see the bloody end
As they rip her into bits no-one will ever mend
The shout goes up for all to hear, some they scream and some they cheer
They're all blind to what's been done

The moon looks down from up above
Witness to this dreadful infamy
It cries in grief with tears of bitter pain
And blushes rudely at the deed of shame

The winner's prize is torn from off the mangled form
Raped for some sick and twisted high
The bloody mess so cruel is thrown upon the icy pool
In peace that death will not deny
Sad ripples spread about in reddened disarray
The moon reflects a twinkling ruby on display
The king bereft of all stares at that awful spectacle
Shown in condolence of his love

CHRISTMAS IS COMING -- Derek Wood

Christmas is coming but that's not enough
I tear at the wrapping that's given with love
The card that was written I chose to ignore
Is lost and forgotten and quietly slips to the floor
I long for the feeling
Of Jimmy Stewart's "Wonderful Life"
Now I'm battered and bleeding
But ready and willing to pay any price

Christmas is over and I couldn't care
The year feels as bleak as the bite in the air
Envy was voted 'most popular sin'
While the mad dogs of retail are rapidly closing in
With innocence dying
The star in the east is falling to earth
Can't stop myself lying
But I mean it sincerely for what it is worth

A heavenly choir sings as
I drift through the men's fashion wear
It's down to the wire
I'm kicking and screaming and trying so hard not to care

Christmas is coming a moment too soon
It feels like December but it's only June
The angels of heaven are singing his name
While the people of England get ready to play the game
The temperature's falling
While I bathe in the warmth of a late Autumn day
The season is calling
In a strictly commercial sense anyway

Christmas is sponsored and looking so sad
Easter is vacant and still up for grabs
Summer is favourite and floating today
While New Year it's said is preparing for Plc
I'm quietly waiting
For the cold light of Heaven to kick in the door
I feel like I'm skating
On the thinnest of ice that can't take anymore

FREEDOM -- John Lang

Do you remember years ago
When you were just a child
And your mother used to scold you for being bad
And your father said you were wild
Then as the years rolled quickly by
And life began to take its toll
You began to feel a heaviness
Settling on your very soul

You gotta have freedom of action
Freedom to take your time
Do whatever you want, whatever you feel
You gotta have freedom of loving
Freedom to change your mind
Just don't forget there are others in this world as well

Now you know the ways of life
The many joys and tears
Each day you live will make you wise
To meet the coming years
Whether looking for an answer
Or for the final truth
There's one thing that I know for sure
Nobody needs to prove

You gotta have freedom of action
Freedom to take your time
Do whatever you want, whatever you feel
You gotta have freedom of loving
Freedom to change your mind
Just don't forget there are others in this world as well

RIVER FLOWS -- Derek Wood & Bob Hawkins

Walking out the back door, early in the morning
Everything that's precious is everything I'm holding
In a sinful world I'm perfect anyway

River flows, I'm caught in flight
The gaps between the rocks grow wide
the image fits the thinker's dream
The talking hurts

I was meant for better things
Designed to last, the stuff of dreams
Collision course, I fall headlong
The script is done and set in stone

Walking out the back door, early in the morning
Everything that's precious is everything I'm holding
In a sinful world I'm perfect anyway

The old men sit and watch me pass
I'm flying now, I'm moving fast
Ask yourself is it this that you want

I was meant for better things
Designed to last, the stuff of dreams
Collision course, I fall headlong
The script is done and set in stone

In a sinful world I'm perfect anyway
In a sinful world I'm perfect anyway

SHARKS -- Derek & Claire Wood

Sharks are swimming in my fishpond
Vultures circle overhead
Bison are breeding in my bathroom
And penguins are living in my shed

There's a walrus sitting in my armchair
Whales are wallowing in my bath
A sloth is slumbering on the ceiling
The monkey's climbing the giraffe

Lizards are lounging in my laundry
There's a rhino cluttering up the yard
Please don't think that I'm complaining
But life is getting very hard

Don't give it up,
You may still be heard,
If you shout it out.
Don't give it up,
You may still be heard.

Much of what is happening
Is so hard to explain
You'll always find that there is
One more reason to complain
Or always be resigned
To thinking you're to blame
It's sharks that start to shape the way
I function once again

The radio plays and the nation prays
And it's all too late to change the ways
Of the minds who doubt when the jury's out
And you may be heard if you shout it out
And life is hard and they mark my card
And the man next door he lost it all
On a single bet with a marmoset
And you may be heard if you shout it out

The cat is chasing all the tuna
Polar bear's playing the kazoo
Panda's riding on the piglet
There's piranhas living down the loo
